Minutes after posting the previous post, I spoke with someone who has launched churches and has overseen and resourced over 100 church plants. He told me a grim statistic: In many places in the US, 85% of church plants are not in existence after 3 years. When I asked what the contributing factors where to their short lives, he said the number one problem is that the new churches try and own a building of their own too quickly. He said the momentum that they had going with them when they existed to reach the lost and grow as community get sucked out of them as they focus on the purchase, construction and repairs of the building and all that comes with it. He continued to explain how money that could be used to bless the community and meet needs all around them go instead to building a fortress mentality.
In light of what I just posted, I found the timing to be interesting.

This makes perfect sense and really it is not surprising. I think this approach gives RCC tremendous freedom and will allow us to focus on the purposes God has laid out for RCC.
ReplyDeleteI pray that this is so John, thanks.
